Younger Brother Review and Tunes...

Younger Brother was amazing. Set at the wisely chosen Terminal 5 venue, the show had an unusually late start, - 11PM. The night kicked off with Simon Posford (I believe) doing a great DJ Set for about 40 minutes, blending tunes of many different shades of psytrance, breakbeat, and fast-paced ethnic house. The atmosphere was very friendly and loose. Nothing but good vibes. During the first half of his set a friend and I went to chill out on the Terminal 5 roof deck (which I never before knew was there!) The roof deck has its own bar, two floors, and water-proof couches. Everyone was chilling, having fun, and getting high. Sadly, I did not get stoned, but luckily my mind was blown regardless of that fact. A bit past midnight, Younger Brother came on full force. They started off with "All I Want" and "Ribbon on a Branch", probably their most popular songs off The Last Days of Gravity. I recorded "Ribbon on a Branch" and hopefully will post it up on youtube soon. They played them really well, and with impeccable clarity for a band consisting of 6 - 7 guys. Their set weaved through countless genres while staying thematically cohesive. There was a little something for everyone, but none of it felt like pandering. These guys don't love psy, or weird electronic sounds... They love music, and it was apparent throughout the whole show. They played nearly every song off The Last Days of Gravity, slightly improvising on some. Happy Pills sounds absolutely beautiful live. After the live show Posford got back on the decks and rocked the place again with some hard ethnic psy. I'm not a huge psy fan, but the track selection was excellent. And the sweet sweet smell of ganja... everywhere...
